Platform Dependant and Independent Games - Task 1

What is platform dependency?

Platform dependent games are games that depend on the software and hardware of a certain platform and cannot be played on any other.

Platform independent games are games that do not depend on any platform and can be played on most platforms that compete with each other.

Examples of platform dependant games on the following platforms:

Wii - Mario Kart, Zelda

PS3 - Uncharted, The Last of Us

PC - Counterstrike GO, Zoo Tycoon

Xbox 360 - Halo, Fable

Examples of platform independent games:

Call of Duty games

Minecraft

Game of thrones Telltale

Fallout

Most of the platforms below use their own OS below is a list and brief descriptions of each:

PC - The PC mostly uses the windows OS, the windows OS is designed for doing everything

Macintosh - Macintosh use the OSX this OS is designed dimarlarly to windows to do everything

Apple Iphone - This operating is focused on running applications and giving a neat experience

HTC desire - The HTC desire uses android 2.2 gingerbread, it is designed to have lots of functionality but still simple for the younger or less technical market.

Ipad - The Ipad OS is the same as the IPhone and is focused on running applications an giving a neat and easy to use experience.

Samsung Galaxy - The Samsung galaxy uses the android marshmallow operating system with touchwiz software user interface, its designed to be a portable computer.

Xbox 360 - The Xbox uses a custom OS designed for playing games and applications

What is a driver

A driver is software that allows the user to communicate with the hardware. It is important to install the drivers that come with new hardware because the operating system may not know how to communicate with the new hardware, installing drivers that usually come on a disc will allow you computer to communicate with the hardware.

GPU Driver

It is important that you install the drivers that come with the GPU and update them regularly, if no drivers are installed than the graphics card will not function properly and will cause more serious problems, like not being able to adjust the fan speed when needed.

Sound Card Driver

Sound card drivers are also extremely important, they receive information from applications, games, music and videos and output them to things like speakers and headphones. Without the drivers the sound card wouldn't function.

Network drivers

The network drivers are responsible for controlling the device that is responsible for connecting the computer to the network, if there are no drivers the computer will not be able to connect to the internet.
